    Aliyah Tank Design

A new tank top pattern has been released just in time for summer. The Aliyah tank top was inspired by the color of the Alani drink flavor sherbet swirl. I’d been searching my cotton yarn stash for something that would be fun and colorful for summer and these colors all caught my eye. I love all the Alani drinks and to have all the colors made my day.

    See how perfect these are?

I decided on doing a simple striped pattern, based on how much yarn I had of each color.

Once I had finished the main body panels, I wasn’t quite sure how to finish it off. I wanted it simple enough, but also a little flair to it. I’d planned to have it finished for my Florida trip, but didn’t quite get there and had to finish it when I get home.

I went with doing wider straps in a mesh stitch, continuing working in the striped pattern. I then made some braided strands to tie up the top of the mesh section.

The Aliyah tank has such a versatile style, but I felt is best worn with denim.

It’s the perfect summer tank, given the mesh stitch for a bit of open air flow, and the way there’s no awkward tugging or uncomfortable nature to it. I love when I can have a piece that you can wear and go!

The Aliyah tank pattern is suitable for beginners and up! You’ll need to know how to do longtail cast on, 1×1 twisted rib, stockinette stitch, picking up stitches, mesh stitch, and seaming. The color work makes this project go by fairly quickly!

    Materials Needed

5 skeins Wool and the Gang “shiny happy cotton” or We Are Knitters “the cotton”

Size 6.5 mm circular or straight needles (I used circular as if they were straights for the body panels, then as circular for the ribbing around the arms)

    Darning needle for seaming

  • Free Pattern | Magic Shawl

    Free Pattern | Magic Shawl

This Wanderlust yarn from Knit Collage was originally a tee cardigan (which I sell the pattern for on my site) but I never wore it so I took it apart to make a Christmas tree skirt. While I was making the skirt, I realized I love this yarn way too much to only have it around for Christmas. So then I decided to make it in a fashion that it could also be a lap blanket or shawl. P.S. this yarn color is called frolic.

Honestly, I love it for a tree skirt too. This yarn is pretty much thee yarn that made me fall in love with knitting. It is actually, not pretty much.

This wanderlust yarn is fairly spendy, so if you’d like to use something else, you could do something like WAK’s “the wool” or Wool and the Gangs “crazy sexy wool”. It won’t be as heavy as the wanderlust yarn, but will still work! You can double strand it if you wanted it to be more like this one.

    Materials Needed

6-7 skeins Knit Collage wanderlust yarn or about 210 yards super bulky weight yarn

Size 25mm (US 50) straight knitting needles

Darning needle for weaving in ends and fringe

    Skills Needed

Longtail cast on method, stockinette stitch, bind off, adding fringe

    Gauge

3 stitches and 5 rows in 4×4” of stockinette stitch.

    Finished Measurements

    Width- 58” across

    Length- 19”

    The Pattern

    1. Cast on 52 stitches using the longtail cast on method.
    2. Knit 25 rows in stockinette stitch, row 1 being a purl row.
    3. Bind off.
    4. Weave in ends.
    5. Cut strands of yarn to whichever length you’d like and add them to the edge.

    Easy as can be!
