    My Favorite Wool Yarns

When I first started knitting, I had absolutely no clue where to look for yarn. We don’t have any yarn stores within hours of us so I had to look online. I actually first found knitcollage.com and fell in love with the colors and sparkles. I ordered a few skeins from there and tried it out. It’s absolutely stunning yarn, but a bit out of my price range. It’s fun for a unique project once in awhile.

My go to is We Are Knitters “the wool” or Wool and the Gangs “crazy sexy wool”. For a few reasons. I love the look of it. It’s gorgeous. It’s a yarn I could just stare and for hours and envision all the lovely pieces it could create. Second, if you catch it on sale or buy a bundle, it’s not that badly priced. I know a lot of people still don’t want to spend that much, but if you’re knitting something you’re going to keep forever, it’s worth it. I really only order these yarns for my wool projects. Plus, they knit up super quick, which is what we all want!

My very top color way and choice is by far We Are Knitters “the wool” in the color way yarnicorn. It’s a fav of everyone. It sells out super quick every time they restock it and I highly recommend getting on their email list so you can snag a few skeins when it’s available! This yarn is so breathtaking that you could honestly knit anything and it’s going to be spectacular. It’s that good.

All of my chunky wool knit patterns are knit in either of these yarns and you can swap between the two as they work up and gauge the same. I swear there is nothing more exciting than picking out new colors for projects. It’s the highlight of every design I create!

If you’re looking for patterns in these yarns, click the shop button in the menu above! A couple favorites of many is the winter blues sweater and the lost road trip cardigan pictured below. The winter blues sweater is an easy pattern and many have knit it as their first sweater! The lost road trip cardigan is a bit more for advanced beginners, but can be knit easier if preferred. I’ve had a few people ask how to knit it without the distressing details, and all you will do is simply knit in stockinette stitch, without adding the make ones (except for sleeve increases), yarn overs, or dropping stitches. If you decide not to do those, it’s an easy level.:)

    Happy knitting!

  • The Kels Marie Sweater

    The Kels Marie Sweater

Spring is coming! Happy days. I decided to do one last oversized chunky knit to end the winter season. I’m not sad about winter leaving, but knitting these super fast knits on big needles was a big upside to winter. The Kels Marie sweater took about eight hours to knit! When you’re short on time, but really really need a new sweater, this is how you do it. Grab your big needles, 25mm (US 50), some big super chunky weight yarn, and get busy!

The Kels Marie sweater uses six skeins of We Are Knitters “the wool”. This colorway, called neon marshmallow, is currently out of stock last I checked. I’m not sure if they have a waiting list for it right now or not, but it’s worth checking and signing up for! It’s literally a dream come true and you do need it in your life.

This sweater is fairly easy to knit. The ribbing is a basic twisted rib. Which, if you’re not familiar with, is knitting and purling through the back loops. It’s super easy and gives it a pretty braided look. I always always use twisted rib! After the ribbing comes a little bit of mesh stitch, or holey stitch, I’ve seen it called a few different things. Then the remainder is knit in your basic stockinette stitch! Nothing complicated. The sleeves have a few increases, and that’s about it! A beginner knitter can knit this sweater. 😊

This sweater just gives me all the happy vibes. And you know we all need as many of those as we can get.

  • The Wild Love Bomber Cardi Pattern

The Wild Love Bomber Cardi Pattern

My latest design, the Wild Love Bomber Cardi Pattern. This design is made using Wool and the Gangs shiny happy cotton, an Aran/worsted weight yarn, and size 5mm straight knitting needles.

The majority of this sweater is an easy knit and knit flat in five separate pieces. The back, two front panels, and the sleeves. After completing the knitting, the sweater is seamed up using the invisible horizontal and vertical seaming methods. The stitches used include 1×1 twisted ribbing, stockinette stitch, and garter stitch. The sleeves have increases, which are very easy to do once you have gotten the hang of it.

The only thing that I wouldn’t consider so easy, is the picking up stitches for the edging on the front and creating the button holes. The pattern does include the link where I learned to create the buttonholes if further assistance is needed.

The fit style of the Wild Love Bomber Cardi is a relaxed, cozy, and slightly oversized feel. Perfect for layering over a tank or tee, any season. I am loving the retro style vibes of it! I had a photo of my dad from when he was probably in his 20’s tucked in my notebook and it must have kind of influenced the vibe. ❤️

The pattern for this cardigan is available in my Etsy shop, by going to the Shop link in the Menu above.
